Julie B. from Pretty in Plastic and Heidi Johnson of Hijinx Artist Management & PR have been invited to guest curate an exhibition focusing on Art Toys. This exhibition will feature the top artists and brands who have come to define this art movement over the past twenty years.
This is the very first West Coast museum exhibition to address the history of the art toy. Concentrating on West Coast artists, stores, and manufacturers, it opens the weekend following Comic Con. Gathering participants who will be in town for Comic Con to spend Friday and Saturday (July 17 –18) at MOAH. An exclusive, ticketed opening reception, with entertainment, bar, and hors d’oeuvres for VIPs and guest artists will take place on Friday night from 710pm, followed by a limited signing with artists on Saturday.
THE ART OF TOYS: A LEFT COAST RETROSPECTIVE OF DESIGNER TOYSwill open to the public on Saturday, July 18, 2015 at the Museum of Art and History in Lancaster, California (MOAH). This exhibition will also feature murals by artists David P. Flores,Hueman (Allison Torneros), and Angry Woebots(Aaron “Woes” Martin), with a special installation by Kozyndan, and more. Other events will include panel discussions, workshops, and a film screening. MOAH’s Vault store will feature selected art toys and more for sale, curated by the Coachella Boutique’s Jon Halperin.
Artists include: Gary Baseman,Luke Chueh, Tristan Eaton, Ron English, Frank Kozik, Joe Ledbetter, Buff Monster, Kathie Olivas, Brandt Peters, Mark Ryden, Greg (CRAOLA) Simkins, and more. Over 80 artists, stores, and manufacturers will be included in this exhibition. Stores/brands include: Toy Art Gallery, DKE Toys, Giant Robot, Meltdown, Munky King, Necessaries Toy Foundation, Pretty In Plastic, Silent Stage Gallery, Super 7, 3D Retro, Circus Posterus / Stranger Factory, and many more.
